Barbados introduces mandatory room levy

New Barbados Room Rate Levy

The Barbados government has introduced a new mandatory room rate levy. It applies with immediate effect to all hotel stays from 1st July 2018 onwards. It also includes existing bookings made before 11th June.

For luxury hotels, the Barbados room rate levy has been set at US$10 per room, per night. And the Barbadian government has specified that these charges must be included and paid for by guests upon check-out.

This new levy is being introduced at very short notice. It means that if you do already have a holiday in Barbados booked for this year or beyond, it will apply.

We, along with many other travel agents and tour operators, are keeping a close eye on how this levy is being received. And on the impact on tourism and whether other Caribbean islands and destinations follow suit.

If you have booked a holiday to Barbados with Ultimate Destinations and would like to discuss this further, please do contact us: we will be pleased to help.
