Our local film club’s latest showing
Chorleywood Film Club’s February screening is The Children Act, a compelling moral and legal drama. It takes place at The War Memorial Hall on Common Road in Chorleywood. Doors and bar open at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm.
The Children Act
This is the story of a High Court Judge called Justice Fiona Maye, played by Emma Thompson. She’s a specialist in family law with a huge workload and a strained marriage. And she is asked to rule on the case of a boy called Adam – he is a young man who is refusing a blood transfusion, that will save his life, on religious grounds. But as Adam is three months short of his eighteenth birthday, he is still considered, in the eyes of the law, to be a child. So what should she do – force him to live or allow him to die? Her judgement will be called to the test with huge consequences…
The Children Act is directed by Richard Eyre, based on Ian McEwan’s bestselling novel. Alongside Emma Thompson, star Stanley Tucci, Fionn Whitehead, Ben Chaplin, Eileen Walsh and Jason Watkins.
Thompson remains the still focus of the drama, relentlessly intelligent on camera, impossible not to watch
