The latest showing from Chorleywood Film Club
Chorleywood Film Club’s April screening is The Wife. This is a poignant, funny and emotional journey and a celebration of womanhood, liberation and self-discovery. And Glenn Close delivers a wonderful Oscar nominated performance.
It takes place at The War Memorial Hall on Common Road in Chorleywood. Doors and bar open at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm.
Joan Castleman (Glenn Close) has spent forty years putting her own talent and abilities to one side, supporting her charismatic husband Joe (Jonathan Pryce). While his is a stellar literary career, over the years, Joan has tolerated his behaviour and actions with great humour and grace.
As a result, their marriage is based on a set of compromises. And finally, Joan has reached a turning point. On the eve of Joe’s Nobel Prize Literature, she finally confronts the biggest sacrifice of her life and some long-hidden secrets.
Close gives a performance of such devastating delicacy you can’t take your eyes off her.
– Matthew Bond, The Mail on Sunday
