Our well-travelled travel consultant, Bob Mortimore recently visited the Caribbean islands of St Lucia and Mustique courtesy of Elegant Resorts. During his trip, he visited a series of beautiful hotels including Cap Maison. Here are his travel notes from his visit. This is the second of a series of blog posts which detail Bob’s trip around the two islands.
Cap Maison, St Lucia
The boutique resort of Cap Maison is located on St Lucia’s Cap Estate, a former sugar plantation, on the northern tip of St Lucia. Perched on top of a private beachfront bluff, it enjoys spectacular oceanic views.
Cap Maison’s hacienda style white washed buildings and terracotta styled roofing are surrounded by cultivated gardens are dotted with pretty fountains and terracotta urns.
This resort has an excellent selection of spacious, well equipped garden rooms, junior suites and one, two and three bedroom villa suites. All have private bathrooms, air conditioning (bedrooms only), balconies or terraces, free Wi Fi, docking stations, flat screen TVs with music centre and DVD players, a mini-bar and tea and coffee makers. Villa Suites have king-size beds in all the bedrooms, a pool or jacuzzi and ocean views. Guests can also make full use of the hotel’s two pools, gym, spa, shop and library.
You will enjoy excellent food and beverages at Cap Maison. In the main house, its’ elegant vaulted wine cellar, Cellar Maison, is home to hundreds of specially selected wines from all over the world; a well-travelled Sommelier is in attendance to look after groups up to around ten persons. The main house is also home to the well-stocked Theo’s Bar. Cap Maison’s main restaurant, The Cliff at Cap, offers spectacular sea views. It serves very good breakfasts and lunches and by evening, turns into an elegant fine dining venue. The Cliff Bar, which enjoys the same sea views, opens from morning to midnight serving snacks and an impressive drinks selection. Cap Maison is also happy to cater for guests who elect to dine on their balcony or roof terrace and for private dinner parties.
On Smugglers Beach, below Cap Maison is a beach bar offering refreshments, beach towels and sun beds to hotel guests; kayaks and snorkelling equipment is also available for hire. Further along the beach is the Naked Fisherman Beach Bar. It serves an extensive Caribbean style lunch menu on a daily basis and also hosts dinner three times a week.
