I recently thoroughly enjoyed one of Orient Express’ wonderful British Pullman day trips, travelling from London to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, home to the Duke of Devonshire and his family.
The British Pullman is a sister train to the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express which ran in the heyday of great train travel. It features marvellous vintage carriages that once ran on legendary 1920s services such as the Brighton Belle and your memorable day features first-class service, a fabulous brunch and sumptuous five-course dinner. And of course a very agreeable visit to Chatsworth House which is set in the heart of the Peak District.
08.00am Met my hosts Carrier, Orient Express, Silversea, Regent Cruises & Fairmont Hotels at Victoria Station.
After brief introductions we boarded the British Pullman for the journey to Chesterfield Station. The British Pullman is a majestic train, the carriages are truly splendid – I could have been on a set from an Agatha Christie film! It was not long before we were served Bellinis followed by Brunch.
On arrival at Chesterfield Station, we were transferred to Chatsworth House. After a leisurely tour of the House, there was still time to explore the gardens and out buildings before taking a coach to Chesterfield Station. The train left Chesterfield at 5pm and it was not long before we were served a sumptuous five-course dinner. And we arrived back at Victoria just before 9pm.
A wonderful experience.
